Wind and rain stung Sahara’s face as she lifted herself onto the deck. Ocean came up behind her and let out a short whistle.

“What a mess,” he commented. There was seaweed and water all over the deck.

Sahara looked up at the sky with narrowed eyes. It was already pretty bad, but she wasn’t looking forwards to when the actual black clouds reached them. Only gray ones were above.

“I thought it didn’t rain on Talair!” Ocean yelled as the wind picked up.

“For the most part it doesn’t!” Sahara called over her shoulder. For some reason her words felt like a lie.

There was a creak and both of their attentions were drawn to the sail. It was rattling in place, looking as if it were about to snap and fly off.

No! “I’ll get that!” Sahara started for the sail when another wave smashed against the boat’s side. Sahara let out a short screech as water crashed against her legs mid-step and she toppled sideways, skidding a few feet on the slippery boards.

Before she could stand back up or even clear her eyes from the water that had coated her face, her fears were answered. What was left of their sail flew towards her, forcing her to roll closer to the railing as it hit her chest before flying off.

“Sahara!” Ocean was moving as quickly as possible to her. He threw his arm around her waist and pulled her away from the edge of the deck before she joined the sail to its watery escape.

He didn’t want to lose her so quickly.

Sahara broke out of his hold and shuffled towards the wheel, which was close to the middle of the deck. Somehow, the scary black clouds had already spread their shadow over them.

“Tie this around your waist!” she screamed at Ocean has he joined her. She tossed one end of the rope at him, wrapping the other around the wheel’s stand before tying it around herself. He did as she said, the boat roiling in the heaving seas, water washing over the deck constantly as the waves grew ever taller and ever madder.

Sahara coughed as she threw her arms around the stand, water entering her mouth as she breathed.

I thought you said you would protect the boat! She screamed at Zadet.

You forgot what I said again, dear one. I told you that no harm would come upon the ship…while you were inside it. You’re no longer inside it now, are you?

Sahara grunted in frustration as Ocean finally finished knotting the soggy rope around his middle, the loose threads of twine rubbing over his bindings.

Then something else, something horrible, caught her attention.

A humungous, black wave, dark as ink, rose above them, getting ever higher as they got closer.

Then it smashed down upon their tiny ship, showing them who the real boss of the sea was.
Oh noes! :noes:

Zadet is so...argh! :stab:
